Creating Outdoor Lighting…Indoors.

Well folks, today was the infamous day of creating my Advanced Studio Techniques Outdoor/Indoor lighting assignment. The objective of this assignment was to create an image that appears to be taken with outdoor lighting however, it is created indoors using controlled studio lighting.

This is accomplished by using color correcting gel filters, and a mixture of electronic flash, and hotlights. The hotlights create warmer orange or yellow tones, where the electronic flash in unison with a blue color correcting gel creates a cooler blue or purple toning. This is no easy task. My group has 4 people in it, and to complete all of our images it took a little over 5 hours. I have never worked so hard at getting lighting correct before in any of my shoots.

I wanted my image to reflect a crisp but comfortable fall day, either during the early early morning, or evening.  I think I did a fairly good job taking this concept and executing it. Which time of day do you feel this best reflects?

This next image is the same technique just a little different composition. Which do you like best?
