Happy Belated 4th of July! I hope all my readers in America enjoyed the holiday! I had a great time this year. I got to see three firework shows, the images posted below are from the Appleton show in Memorial Park. I am fortunate enough to have the luxury of viewing the show from my deck, avoiding the crowd and parking nightmare. We enjoyed the show sipping drinks and lounging in the backyard with our new neighbors. On the 4th we headed down to Fort Atkinson to spend the holiday with my mom and brother. He was visiting from New York with his girlfriend, who I got to meet for the first time. We had a blast! We went to the Milwaukee Horticulture Domes, went swimming and suntanned on the beach, ate excellent barbecue, played cards against humanity, bought awesome fireworks and set them off at my grandpa’s house, grilled 90$ worth of grass-fed steak with a chimchurri sauce for everyone, went to the Madison Square farmer’s market, played bocci ball, and had Friday night fish fry at the fireside. So many summer activities! It was a fun-filled weekend that went very quickly.
I had intended to post some images on the 4th for you of some festive food pics and the Appleton fireworks, but time just slipped by and I didn’t get the chance. Chet and I discovered an awesome recipe for a homemade horseradish aoli. He made some delicious wedge fries sprinkled with Parmesan to go with it. Last week we also went strawberry picking at Porter’s Patch. We picked about 30 lbs of berries and made lots and lots of jam. One of my favorite things about summer is making smoothies with all the delicious fruits. I wanted to include a pic of my strawberry banana smoothie. The other image is of some festive white fudge cranberry popcorn I made. I love popcorn with olive oil and Lawry’s but was looking for a way to indulge my sweet tooth and came up with that! I plan to post the recipes tomorrow, but for now enjoy the late holiday images.
