As a creator of any medium, finding your place in the creative world can be overwhelming. At times it is a journey of self doubt, stranger comparison, and just plain lonely. I’m excited to finally share with you my images from a recent styled photo shoot. For several months now I have been a part of something called the Rising Tide Society. I came across this group by happenstance.
Having other creatives in your circle to bounce ideas off of or draw inspiration from is a wonderful thing. When I graduated college I moved back home and in doing so left the majority of my creative network behind. One day I was talking with my friend Annie Austen about my creative network drought. She mentioned the Rising Tide Society. I had never heard of it before, but the idea of community over competition intrigued me. Could it be? There are other creatives out there who are tired of fighting against one another for exposure, opportunity, likes, followers, etc? She encouraged me to check to see if my city had a local meet up group. I bawked, figuring this sort of thing was reserved for the big cities. My curiosity lead me to the Rising Tide Society website and to my surprise, there was indeed a group in my city.
As I explored the website it became clear that this was a movement I could get behind. The whole idea driving this wonderful group is community over competition. It is the goal of the RTS to create a community that promotes true relationships, better businesses, and confident compassionate leaders. If after reading this post you are still curious, explore their website and join the movement! I found my Together Tuesdays group on Facebook and just like that, I was a part of something pretty great. To clarify, Together Tuesdays is a title for the meet up group cities have formed. The meetings consist of curated material from the RTS and opportunities to meet and grow your creative network.
This past June my Together Tuesdays group in Appleton participated in a styled shoot. Our leader Emily Polzin with the help of a few other RTS members worked with vendors in our area to create three different styled shoots. A senior photo shoot, an engagement photo shoot, and a wedding photo shoot. The vendors provided the venue, clothes, flowers, jewelry, make up and hair, food, and models. Over 25 photographers showed up to participate in the styled shoot. We had some crazy good early summer golden hour lighting, delicious food, and even better experiences getting to know one another. Enjoy my images. Check out the Rising Tide Society and all of the vendors who participated in our awesome styled shoot!
